Compliment or Insult

There's a lot of banter at the poker table.  Take note of what people say and think about whether they are complimenting you...or insulting your play.

Here's a collection of things I've heard and what they really mean.

They say: Nice catch
Verdict: 100% Insult
They mean: Lucky bastard.  You really played that stupid. Keep playing that and I'll take all your chips...The only reason you stayed in the hand is because I let you.  It didn't have anything to do with your skill.
Similar sayings: Nice river

They say: Nice bet
Verdict: 90% Insult
They mean: You didn't have it.  I didn't either, but I'm not as willing as you are to risk all my chips on a bad hand. Dumb ass...
They might mean: You did a good job calculating what my probable pot odds were and then bet the perfect amount to keep me in with a losing hand.

They say: Nice hand
Verdict: Compliment, generally
They probably mean: Well played, my friend...
They could mean: Lucky bastard...
