Yeah, I must've had a brain-fart when I posted mine, because it makes no sense.
Tho' here's a related question... what do you do if someone is going to be late but then never shows? That is, they were being blinded out, but then after a few rounds we give up on 'em. Their money isn't in the prize pool, but some of their chips are. Seems a bit unfair for the other tables, and also doesn't make the average stack count completely accurate. When it happened at my game, I just removed their stack. I suppose in the long run it doesn't make much difference, but it's still a little weird. These days I'm more of a hardass about people giving accurate RSVPs. _________________ Wherever you go, there you are. |

i blind them out for 1-2 levels or whatever we think is reasonable (ie, did they call, did anyone hear from them, have they flaked before, how's parking outside, etc. etc.), then take their chips out of play at the time decided.
the reality is that this usually amounts to below 20% of their stack, which is pretty negligible over the course of a night, especially when (ideally) the same person won't be winning their blinds over and over. i think it'd be stupid to make a steal-raise with a trash hand to pick up a $20 blind in a game with $1500 starting stacks and rebuys, after all.
the problem i haven't yet experienced is the person who's late, blinded off, taken out of play, and then shows up. i think i would give them the option to buy in, then rebuy a new stack. _________________ good players take far more beats, because they're getting it in good far more often. |

My general rule is that unless you've paid in advance, your chips will not be in play if you're not there at the start. That eliminates all this jibber-jabber.
So what happens if someone shows up late? Since I allow rebuys until the first break, as long as they show up before then, its almost kosher.

I'm all for blinding somebody out when they leave early but do you still pay them if they cash? |

Most definitely, Sir! If there are players that can't figure out how to last past an absent player, more power to them!

That could take hours and pretty much ruins the night. Who the hell wants to sit there waiting to blind somebody out? Would "You must be present to claim your cash" be out of line? |

As long as you put it in your house rules and everyone knows about it in advance, nothing's out of line.
"Must be present to claim your cash...", "A K-Q flush beats an A-10 flush..."...put it all in there.
I'll say it again, though. If this is a home tournament and someone leaves, you'd better either give them their money back or give them the money they deserve when they place. _________________ --

If you want to go by the way most large tourneys are run.... they get blinded off... and paid off if they place.
At one of the tourneys I was at in NH an EMT was playing a S&G after busting out of the main event. He got called and had to leave with 5 players left. The Floor Manager told him he'd get blinded off & if he placed, his money would be waiting for him when ever he wanted to pick it up.
At our tourneys we employ the same rule.
As for a player being late...
If you paid in advance your chips will be in play and you'll be blinded off until you show up or have nothing left. If you can't make it you must call before the start time and your chips will be removed from play and you will get a refund.
If you are going to be late you must call before the tourney start time and chips will be placed in play for you and will be blinded off until you arrive.
Everybody has a cell phone these days... how difficult is a phone call?
The "House Rules" can be whatever you want... it's your game... you make the rules... but there are some games I refuse to play... because the rules and/or other ways the game is run are dumb. _________________ - Dix |

It's a pretty simple concept.
I don't get why people keep trying to screw the guy who has to leave...
If you can't beat a guy who isn't even playing, then you shouldn't be playing. _________________ --
