I've found that many live poker room sit-n-go's have a similar pace. Even though the blinds might raise up every 15 or 20 minutes, the number of hands played online in 3 minutes can be similar. Plus, the live games usually start out with 2000 in chips with doubling 25-50 blinds, whereas the online "ultra turbo's" start with 1500 and gradually raising 10-20 blinds. Main point is: either way, you get in about 10 hands before the blinds raise.
I consider them lotteries too but good practice for live tournies. You gotta adjust your game, or die a not-so-slow blinding death. Those poker rooms just want to get your money as fast as possible and start a new tourney. There is a skill to picking the right time to push all-in with 10-J suited and not paniking when you have to lay down 20 hands in a row and the blinds are comin' round like a frieght train... |
