Hii...
A few days ago, the SysAdmin had to repair a severed ethernet cable that was chewed by rats.
He used these little round orange clamps that, when crimped, filled with a clear gel of some sort, which hopefully effectively connected the wires. I don't know what they're called, as I've never seen them before starting my (first) I.T. job here less than a year ago.
What I would have probably done is put an RJ-45 connector at each end and couple them.
So my question is, what are your favorite methods of cable repair on the fly, or otherwise (aside from replacing the cable)?
Now, I have almost no experience with soldering, but would really like to get good. I came across this post of a pretty fantastic solder job that also looks fairly time consuming.
If you like soldering, I was hoping to get some recommendations on a handy portable soldering iron, as well.
Thanks..!
