Previously only available for lease to cardrooms and casinos ShuffleMaster's Deck Mate shuffler is now being offered to the public.
You may have seen these installed in the tables at some casinos. (I first saw them at Foxwoods' cash tables) They really speed up the play by letting the dealer use two decks... while one is in play the other is being shuffled.
Naturally, after seeing one in action, I wanted to find out what they cost so I could get my hands on one. Automatic shufflers, while nice to use to speed up the game, always took up too much real estate on the table. Imagine my disappointment to find out that I couldn't buy one, even though I figured it would likely be more than a couple hundred bucks or so.
Well... NOW anyone can buy one to install in their home game table... for the low, low.... LOW PRICE of......
Only $ 15,875
plus shipping and handling - NOT AVAILABLE FOR SALE IN CO, NJ, WA OR TX
OK, so maybe I'm still not quite in the market for one of these things yet.
The most interesting thing I found out about this shuffler is HOW it "shuffles"... it's not so much a shuffler, as it is a "sorter".
It shuffles by reading every card as it checks the deck for all 52 cards. When it reads each specific card the computer's random number generator then assigns the card a specific spot in the deck. The counted deck then moves up and down in the shuffler placing each card in its previously assigned position. That's basically how the DeckMate works, much like its 6 deck blackjack counterpart also offered by ShuffleMaster.
Here's a quote from the site offering them for sale...
Quote: | Yes, we know the price is ridiculously high for this item, but ShuffleMaster controls all the patents surrounding the production of casino-card autoshufflers, and only leased their shufflers to casinos prior to this product - And as a monopoly, they can ask a pretty high price, since this is the only new casino-grade shuffler to be offered for sale anywhere, and is the only one a private party can buy outright.

How about it Doc?.... you KNOW you want one... LOL
Of course... knowing how this thing works, now not only to we have to live with the paranoid whacko looney-toons who swear online poker is "rigged", they can now migrate into cardrooms and whine about how this shuffler is "rigged". _________________ - Dix |
