Virgin Atlantic will model its Airbus A380s on a "cruise ship", with an onboard casino and gym - and even private rooms like cabins.
Branson said he wanted the aircraft to include bigger bars and massage areas than any on Virgin's current fleet, as well as a casino, workout area and showers.
"The idea is to turn it into a cruise ship, so we'd like to have private rooms on there too," he revealed.
Branson wants to fly the A380 to Los Angeles, Sydney, Tokyo, Johannesburg, Hong Kong and New York.
The airline expects to take control of the aircraft in three to four years, following delays from manufacturers.
Speaking about the delays, Branson said: "It is not perfect, and it is a pain, but it is not disastrous as we were not the launch customer."
Virgin Atlantic, the only UK airline to order the aircraft, has requested six. |

I heard about this dream back when I was working at Boeing.
I remember touring an "El Al" 747 that was about to leave production. The configuration inside was vastly different than anything I'd seen from NWA. It had an office station with a fax upstairs, etc. etc.
Reading the Airbus note makes me wonder what happens when they hit turbulance. Do they strap you to your stairmaster so you can keep working out? Are there showers? What if you are in the shower and hit turbulance???
What if you hit turbulance and your casino chips go flying all over hell? _________________ --

That one's easy - they'll use RFID-equipped chips which will allow them to have real time chip counts so it will be trivial to restore everyone to their pre-turbulence state. |

Jeff,
I work for one of Boeing's largest supplier of propulsion systems... I'll let you guess which one. But we also supply Airbus - and things aren't looking to good for the A380. I'll be surprised if they ever go into to service without some major concessions ala Concorde.
All this cruise liner stuff doesn't make much sense to me, unless Branson courts the "I have too much of my daddy's money, so I'm gonna use it to gamble and party all the time see you in Vegas at the Palms or Hard Rock" crowd - which I'm sure he will... But it's all moot unless AI can supply the aircraft...

I would seriously hate to be the dealer. Turbulence hits (hopefully all chips remain on the table), the dealer has to redistribute chips.. and what happens if someone is short? Does the dealer just hand out some more? And I can see the occurance... everyone is set back up after five minutes.... turbulence hits again and re-start the whole process.
I'm thinking a gaming card and all betting is electronic. All your money is stored on a card and you can move from table to table. You would bet with a number pad and an LCD screen.
Quick, someone get me a patent form. _________________ <thwack> NOooooooBODY expects to lose to Rewind!
