Bought this through Columbia House and watched it this weekend.

I've read that it is the best poker movie ever.

While I found it very enjoyable, I do think Rounders is a better film.

My biggest problem is that when The Kid is beat at the end, it is by an incredibly lucky draw on the part of the champ. In Rounders, the climax hand was about how Matt Damon plays KGB after flopping the nut straight.

Let's put Phil Hellmuth in KGB's shoes. He probably would've said, "Good hand...man, you outplayed me there." Now put Phil in "The Kid's" shoes. He would've thrown Lancey Howard out the window for chasing two runners to make a straight flush.

For those who do get "The Cincinnati Kid" on DVD, you need to check out the featurette with the mechanic doing his thing.

Funny enough I too only just saw the movie for the first time last week. A very good movie but not the monster classic that I kept hearing about. Good twist at the end for me - I had always thought that classic line "As long as I'm around you'll always be second best..." was from the kid when as the hero he wins... Embarassed

My favorite quote:

"Son, all you paid was the looking price. Lessons are extra"

Shade was a terrible movie, but had some incredible card tricks, and they showed how they are done too. What does that say about a movie when the bonus material is better than the film? Question

not too much of it has to do with poker, but still a fun movie for anyone who wants a character study on the "action" lifestyle.
