|
|
Hi all, here is the rankings method we use (We've just started out with our league, but so far, the results seem OK).
For PAIR number of buyins
- No 0 point player
- Max Points= Buyins * 5 / 2
for ODD number of buyins:
- Will have a 0 point player
- Max Points= ((Buyins * 5) – 5) / 2
- We start from Max Points Down the rankings by increments of 5
- We add + 3 to the winner and +1 to runner up
Exemple:
12 player Tourney: Max Points= 12 * 5 / 2 = 30
1= 30 + 3 = 33
2= 25 + 1 = 26
3= 20
4= 15
5= 10
6= 5
7=-5
8= -10
9= -15
10= -20
11= -25
12= -30
11 player Tourney: Max Points= ((11 * 5) -5) / 2 = 25
1= 25 + 3 = 28
2= 20 + 1 = 21
3= 15
4= 10
5= 5
6= 0
7=-5
8= -10
9= -15
10= -20
11= -25
The total rankings is the sum of all rankings. _________________ Martin "Stats Genie" Ruest

I'm curious why you did the -5 in the equation for the Odd number of buy-ins. _________________ JumperJeff

Well.... initially (before we added 1st and 2nd place bonuses) the idea was, for any given tournament, to assign a total of 0 points. This would ensure that no one has an advantage if they play in more tournaments. With the added bonuses, this is slightly untrue, but still semi-true
I consider it better than an average system, since with an average system, a good player that plays in smaller tournaments will never be able to compete with an average player that only plays in big tournaments...
Another reason, is not to have decimal points (but this is merely a question of taste)
So if we take this same exemple:
11 player Tourney: Max Points= ((11 * 5) -5) / 2 = 25
1= 25 + 3 = 28
2= 20 + 1 = 21
3= 15
4= 10
5= 5
6= 0
7=-5
8= -10
9= -15
10= -20
11= -25
Total points given= 4 (1st bonus 3 + 2nd bonus 1) normally would be 0
and if we remove the -5:
11 player Tourney: Max Points= ((11 * 5) ) / 2 = 27.5
1= 27.5 + 3 = 30.5
2= 22.5 + 1 = 23.5
3= 17.5
4= 12.5
5= 7.5
6= 2.5
7=-2.5
8= -7.5
9= -12.5
10= -17.5
11= -22.5
Total points given= 31.5 (3 for 1st, 1 for 2nd ) wich leaves an offset of 27.5 points for the tournament.....
Anyways, a lot of numbers to say not much... But hope it answers your question _________________ Martin "Stats Genie" Ruest
